Armaid – Forearm Massager

(From their site:)

“What is Armaid?

ArmiadArmaid is a , self-administered, massage device. It is designed for people suffering from repetitive strain injuries (including carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and tendonitis) to the forearm, wrist, hand and elbow who are willing to take action for their own health.

Armaid provides a deep tissue massage to the muscles and the other soft tissue of your upper limbs. Armaid opens up tight muscles, tendons and ligaments anywhere in your forearm and hand and allows you to help yourself when and where you need help. You simply sit in a chair and strap Armaid to your thigh. It’s equipped with snap-in therapy rollers (hard balls for the forearm, soft balls for the wrist and hand) and supportive padding.

Climbing Injuries.com was provided with a device to loan out to an injured climber.  This is a testimonial

“At first glance the Armaid puts you off but after using it everything makes sense. I started using the Armaid because of classic carpal tunnel symptoms from improper training for climbing. The biggest issue was being woken up nightly because both of my hands going numb while sleeping. In order to slow the numbness I had to wear braces on both wrists. In addition; I saw a therapeutic massage therapist several times. This helped greatly but the cost made continuing this treatment plan prohibitive. After a few weeks of regularly using the Armaid my symptoms are under control and I have return to climbing with continued regular use of the Armaid. The cost is well worth the benefits

The dual rolling action allows limbs to slide through easily. The only drawback is the therapeutic side tends to grab and rip hair out. Having been certified both state and nationally as a massage therapist this is the only massage aid I come across that provides the same level of intensity as a professional deep tissue massage. The Armaid works very well for limbs it is a shame that it can’t be used on the neck, chest, and back very effectively. For myself having to squeeze the device closed could be uncomfortable as both of my hands are affected some sort of ‘screwing’ closure would be nice to minimize the demand on the hand keeping the Armaid closed. This would also still allow the Armaid to ‘dialed in’ for the specific pressure desired. The leg strap seems a little weak and might need to be reworked.”
